S/S 2014 - Headwear

Hats were seen all over the runway in various forms:

- Visor
The embellished sports visor became an important headwear piece this season, especially for the juniors' market. Sitting within the Sports Deluxe trend, it was updated with playful prints and textiles for a youthful vibe. Design details included transparent brims, logo cutouts, 3D embellishments, metallic trim, high-shine finishes and patterned banding.

- Sports cap
The sports cap remains a quintessentially summer item, updated for spring/summer 2014 in bold prints and appliqué logos for a playful look. New fabrics such as denim and wicker mesh show the versatility of this item, from sports though to everyday and occasionwear. Simple caps looked minimal yet luxe at Lacoste and DKNY in matte finishes.

- Headscarf
Designers played with oversized gingham prints and checks for next summer’s headscarves. The scarves were wrapped and tied like bandanas with oversized knots and bows on the top of the head injecting a fun and youthful feel. Refined looks came from smaller scarves worn neatly like a headband, with some covering the whole head generating a 1950s mood. This is an ideal accessory for the Modern Romance theme.

- Bucket hat
This youth market item was embellished, printed and came in lustrous finishes, adding a softer and more feminine aesthetic to a high-summer festival favourite. Silk, raffia and leather were unexpected fabric choices that moved it from a casual piece into party and occasionwear. Traditional cotton options remained in plain, dark colourways, creating a subtle, relaxed look.

- Decorative hair accessory
Hair accessories are making a resurgence, with pretty, decorative styles important for this season.

- Headband
Pretty headbands confirm the bigger trend for hair accessories that is happening right now.

- Statement headpiece
Theatrical headpieces add a sense of drama to catwalk looks, with feathers and floral motifs two of the key themes here.

- Wide brimmed
Wide-brimmed, statement-making styles are combined with soft constructions for a more relaxed feel.
