S/S 2014 - Jewellery

Jewellery trends for S/S 2014:
- Stacked bangle
Chunky stacked bangles continue to be a favourite for the youth customer. Two or three bangles were worn together stacked up the arm in uniformed size, as seen at Chanel and DSquared, while other designers played with size and texture, teaming small and minimal styles with chunky and oversized bangles for an eclectic look. Some designers also used them to inject colour and embellishment into simple collections

- Cuffs
Structured smooth gold and silver cuffs were tightly wrapped around the wrist. Designers’ initials and motifs were embossed on the items and decorated in crystals, with 3D floral embellishments continuing as a favoured adornment. Texture was important and looked fresh, as Balenciaga layered metal leaves to create a laurel effect and Holly Fulton used metal mesh.

- Chokers
The focus for jewellery for spring/summer 2014 settles on the neck and there were innovative interpretations of the choker in all four fashion cities. Oversized proportions made an impact as giant gemstones, ball-like pearls and 3D florals appeared as the favoured embellishments. There was a move away from minimal looks as metal pieces came curved, in mesh grids or as chains for chokers worn high on the neck. Looser hoop chokers offered an easy take on the close-fitting constructions.

- Chunky chain collar
Moving away from next season’s ultra-feminine looks, chunky gold and black chains emerged for collar necklaces. Clusters of chains sat on the collar bone with plain or decorated plaques at the front becoming a focal point. Charms and 3D embellishments were attached to the chains, giving this grungy necklace a softer look

- Cocktail ring
Heavy embellishments continued to dominate jewellery as the cocktail ring made a comeback on the runways in oversized 3D proportions. Pearls, 3D florals, gemstones and novelty charms created fun designs as rings were worn together or teamed with a coordinating bracelet. These oversized styles look set to make an impact on the high-street and will also elevate the cocktail ring to the high-fashion level of the market.

- Long pendant necklace
This is one of the key jewellery items within the Nature Girl trend for next summer. Fine chain or leather necklaces were kept minimal, hanging as low as the naval and decorated with simple glass, metal drop-pendants, charms and tassels. This shape will have commercial success in high-summer festival looks for the younger customer, while more delicate and expensive versions could create timeless items for the contemporary market.

- Chandelier earrings
This season chandelier earrings appeared in a number of guises, confirming dramatic earrings as a fashion item. Designers evolved the classic pendant style that has driven the statement earring in recent seasons and used oversized scales, clusters of gems, crystals or dangling jewels to elevate it.  Paste gemstones injected colour and vibrancy into looks, with earrings often coordinated with jewelled headbands or embellishment on apparel.

- Hoop earrings
The staple hoop earing has emerged again as the go to piece. Seen in patterned plastics and the favourite gold tones. Mid- to oversized versions with multiple loop details are key feature this season.
